Maybe he read the reviews and toned it down but he didn't sound like an angry old man at this show - some of his stories were a little rambling, "let me tell you a story grandkids" kind of interludes but they were entertaining. It could have been much shorter but it was an interesting insight into the inspiration for some of his music. Definitely could have done without the movie intro but if you're not into that, just plan to come at 8:30. JCM was one of the groundbreakers who brought us to the modern era of rock with these classics and his music embodies the best of life in the USA. Saw him in Providence and while there may have been some things about this show that missed the mark, overall it was a great celebration of true rock and roll and American life. I have been to Sheas many times and everything is always great but this show was just not for me. On a positive note, I really loved the violin player!! The weird creepy mannequins on all 4 sides of the stage are still smiling at me! Overall, I left feeling confused on what I just experienced. He didn’t play many of his classics which made me sad. Jack and Diane was pretty much all sung by the audience and uneventful. Once he began performing, I did enjoy the concert but it took me a while to get back into concert mode. It was agony to sit through especially since the lights were off and everyone was patiently waiting for the live music we paid for. Had he started the show at 8:30 and just ran the movies while people were settling in, I think it would have been much better.Īudience members were booing after 15-20 minutes of these movies as it made no sense and us old folks were falling asleep. The 30 minutes of mixed old black and white movies at the beginning was a complete buzz kill and I almost fell asleep. First off, it’s NOT a concert as he will tell you. So disappointed in this performance at Sheas in Buffalo.
